Upanayanam Ceremony | Burlingame Community Center

Keshavan’s Upanayanam ceremony was held at the Burlingame Community Center. I had photographed one of their families wedding and they wanted me to capture this milestone coming of age Upanayanam ceremony event. There is a park opposite the commnity center where we got some fun photos with Keshavan’s friends.

Upanayanam, also known as the sacred thread ceremony, is a significant Hindu rite of passage, traditionally for boys, marking their entry into formal education and spiritual life, often described as a "second birth". It signifies the beginning of a disciplined life dedicated to learning and spiritual growth, particularly the study of the Vedas. The ceremony involves the investiture of the sacred thread, symbolizing purity, dedication, and the acceptance of spiritual responsibilities. 

We got some quick portraits while the decor was being setup. Mingling, greetings with family and friends before the event, followed by ceremony and singing by friends and relatives inbetween and ended with delicious lunch.
